Fingernails keep getting smaller?
i find that my fingernails skrink when i accidentally cut them too close. the are where my nail attaches to my skin recedes when i do this and it stays that that way. how do i get the proper length back?Fingernails keep getting smaller?

Best ides - get outside - quick. Get into some fresh air somewhere out in the countryside preferably. That happened to me once, my lips turned blue, but anyway. You are lacking oxygen if going outside doesn't help then consult you nearest doctor and get an emergency appointment!! I cant give you a diagnosis but I can tell you that you should see a doctor. Grey/blueish nails could be a sign of heart or lung problems.

i used to have my fingers in my mouth all the time... then i quit my stressful job and started taking vitamins... all the sudden i started to calm myself and the vitamins (one/day) made my nails really strong and healthy and i stopped biting them!!!

He doesn't give us (family and friends) a reason for why he grows them so long, but he won't take our reasons for why he SHOULD. I'm pretty sure he'll injure himself somehow, and that injury be caused by his long fingernails. I'm also worried that he might be made fun of.
Maybe there's some way to kinda scare him into cutting his fingernails? He's stubborn, but he gets a little paranoid easily. Anyone have any techniques or advice? :PWhy should you cut fingernails?

He doesn't give us (family and friends) a reason for why he grows them so long, but he won't take our reasons for why he SHOULD. I'm pretty sure he'll injure himself somehow, and that injury be caused by his long fingernails. I'm also worried that he might be made fun of.

I think the best thing you can do to achieve stronger nails is to use a buffer at home regularly (once every 4 days or so) and then paint a clear nail strengthening varnish over the top. I think a balanced diet, low in fats and with plenty of variation helps as well. I used to have weak nails and buffing them and using the clear polish really worked. Mine are now long and really strong, people always ask how I manage to grow them. Give it a go, I used an Avon nail varnish, but this was 15 years ago that I did that and they are still strong!

Purple fingernails and blotchy skin?
Im an 18 year old male who is pretty underweight. I'm about 6 feet tall and about 135 lbs. Whenever I get cold or nervous, my fingernails look purple-ish and my skin gets kind of blotchy. If I'm up moving around, they are red again, or if I'm not cold, they are fine. Or if i kind of move my hands around and rub my fingernails, they turn redish again. No injuries or anything, it's just been like that as long as i can remember.

They have four sides and goes from a fine grit to a smoothing polish. you can use them on top, but I use mine on the tips too and I have no chips or peeling after filing. And you might want to use some vitamin e oil on your nail bed and cuticles, I also put it under my nails at night.

This will sound funny, but it's totally true. Eat cheese, drink milk and chow down on lots and lots and lots of jello. Jello is what I started eating, almost 4 times a week, and only because it's an old wives tale my mom told me about. Anyway, after about 2 months, I've now got long nails that are strong.
Eat more calcium things like cheese and milk.
Exposure to water (frequent hand washing, doing dishes, etc.) will dry out nails and cause peeling. The water rinses away natural oils and the nail absorbs some water causing the nail layers to expand. As the water evaporates, the nail layers contract leading to peeling. (like paint exposed to the elements) and brittleness.
My nails used to peel constantly so I stopped using a nail clipper and only use a nail file to shape and shorten them. I also started protecting my nails with thicker moisturizers.
I read somewhere that nail clippers can cause the layers of the nail to separate and filing is the best way to go.
I started with Revlon's disposable files made for weak nails. File in one direction only. Start on one side and file towards the middle, then go to the other side and file towards the middle of your nail. Smooth the nail into a squoval that mirrors you cuticle or the shape of the white part of your nail bed.
Finish the edges of the nail with a hindo stone, a smooth ceramic/stone nail file or the finest grit nail file you can find. You want to make the edges really smooth.
Revlon makes a tool that should work. It is a pink half moon shape and you can run it under/across the nail from side to middle.
(I have an old hindo stone but haven't been able to find a replacement at a local store. The Revlon tool might be easier for you to find.)
Also, avoid using metal nail files. I recommend using disposable nail files and changing them frequently. The fresher the grit, the less the drag which leads to tearing and peeling.
Some people swear by glass nail files but they can shatter if dropped.
I also use a cuticle balm or nail oil to moisturize my nails and protect them from water since I wash my hands frequently.
(ex. Solar Oil, OPI Avoplex)
Vit E oil, jojoba oil, Aquaphor Healing Ointment, Vaseline or plain Chapstick will work too.
As for your dry forehead, if moisturizers (like vitamin E cream or jojoba oil) haven't worked then try 1% cortisone cream for a few days.
You can also make a moisturizing mask with mashed avocado %26amp; a little honey. The avocado provides some oil %26amp; honey is a humectant.
Do you have any ridges or unusual curvings of the nails? If so, I'd suspect nutritional deficiencies.... make sure to get enough calcium, iron and folic acid in your diet.
As for the dry patch of skin..... is it flaky? Silvery in color? I'd suspect psoriasis or eczema. See your Dr for topical meds.

Purple fingernails and blotchy skin?
Im an 18 year old male who is pretty underweight. I'm about 6 feet tall and about 135 lbs. Whenever I get cold or nervous, my fingernails look purple-ish and my skin gets kind of blotchy. If I'm up moving around, they are red again, or if I'm not cold, they are fine. Or if i kind of move my hands around and rub my fingernails, they turn redish again. No injuries or anything, it's just been like that as long as i can remember.

Jello is what I started eating, almost 4 times a week, and only because it's an old wives tale my mom told me about. Anyway, after about 2 months, I've now got long nails that are strong.

Exposure to water (frequent hand washing, doing dishes, etc.) will dry out nails and cause peeling. The water rinses away natural oils and the nail absorbs some water causing the nail layers to expand. As the water evaporates, the nail layers contract leading to peeling. (like paint exposed to the elements) and brittleness.
My nails used to peel constantly so I stopped using a nail clipper and only use a nail file to shape and shorten them. I also started protecting my nails with thicker moisturizers.
I read somewhere that nail clippers can cause the layers of the nail to separate and filing is the best way to go.
I started with Revlon's disposable files made for weak nails. File in one direction only. Start on one side and file towards the middle, then go to the other side and file towards the middle of your nail. Smooth the nail into a squoval that mirrors you cuticle or the shape of the white part of your nail bed.
Finish the edges of the nail with a hindo stone, a smooth ceramic/stone nail file or the finest grit nail file you can find. You want to make the edges really smooth.
Revlon makes a tool that should work. It is a pink half moon shape and you can run it under/across the nail from side to middle.
(I have an old hindo stone but haven't been able to find a replacement at a local store. The Revlon tool might be easier for you to find.)
Also, avoid using metal nail files. I recommend using disposable nail files and changing them frequently. The fresher the grit, the less the drag which leads to tearing and peeling.
Some people swear by glass nail files but they can shatter if dropped.
I also use a cuticle balm or nail oil to moisturize my nails and protect them from water since I wash my hands frequently.

Purple fingernails and blotchy skin?
Im an 18 year old male who is pretty underweight. I'm about 6 feet tall and about 135 lbs. Whenever I get cold or nervous, my fingernails look purple-ish and my skin gets kind of blotchy. If I'm up moving around, they are red again, or if I'm not cold, they are fine. Or if i kind of move my hands around and rub my fingernails, they turn redish again. No injuries or anything, it's just been like that as long as i can remember.

Why are there lines on my fingernails?
There are different types of lines and different reasons for them. Since you didn't show a photo of your nails, you can match your up with the images on a google search and learn more. Sometimes caused by nutritional deficiency, sometimes just aging, sometimes with a systemic illness.

Just 2 days ago i stopped biting ny nails- and though its really hard i have hardly touched them. But now several of them are dirty and have much on them and it looks horrible! Since I play violin, piano, and cello, I have to keep my nails short. However, I like them better that way in that I never have to worry about them breaking badly, nor do I accidentally scratch people, haha. You can't just pull them off. You tore their heads off and they are still in your cats body and can cause infection. You need to get a match light it and blow it out. While it is still hot put it to the ticks abdomen and the hot match will cause him to pull his head out then you can remove the tick. You need to take your cat to the vet to have the heads removed.

It sounds as though you pulled the body off but left the head. It is not adviseable to put or burn ticks off. I would take it to the vet to get them removed and in future treat your cat with frontline regularly (which you should already be doing anyway!)

I do it, fingers and toes. Yes, it does make them shinier but I have alterior motives. I paint them in a clear coat because at times I have been known to be a nail biter. When I get nervous I do this. I have discovered when I put polish on though it detours me from such things.

My guy has longish nails on his right hand, perfectly manicured, even as far as having them buffed. It looks a little weird, but it is because he plays fingerstyle guitar. The shape helps him hit the right strings, the care is to prevent them from breaking from the beating they take, and the feel great when he is scratching my back while I fall asleep after we have made beautiful music together.
