Do fingernails have feeling?

like, are there sensors in your fingernails like there are on the rest of your body? i thought so, b/c i have long fingernails and i tapped on the desk and felt it, but dad says they're like hair, and when you cut it, you don't feel it. he says that what i'm feeling is the pressure of my fingernails on my skin when i tap them on the desk. what do you say?Do fingernails have feeling?

There are no nerve endings in your fingernails or hair, otherwise clipping your nails or getting a haircut would be a much worse experience than it already is. The reason you feel something is indeed because of the pressure from the desk pushing back on your fingernails which are embedded in your fingers. Fingernails are keratinaceous like horns, hoofs, hair and fur. They are hardened proteins! They are devoid of nerves and hence they cannot convey a sensory perceptio! hence, they do not exhibit a feel of touch! the feeling u had experienced is due to the muscles (cuticle) underlying ur nail! they are rich in nerves and they must have communicated the nail tap! the fingers are also vascularized and hence they are capable of 'feeling'!

If fingernails did have feeling, a lot of people wouldn't have the bad habit of chewing/biting them because it would hurt! They have no nerves in them whatsoever. Your dad is a smart man.
i think that they're dead cells, like your hair, so they don't have feelings. the feeling is the pressure applied to the skin from the nail
The nail in and of itself has no feeling but where it connects to you body is where the nerves get damaged
No, your fingernails have no feeling. Afterall if they did we would yell everytime we cut them.
