Why do humans have fingernails?

so we can peel things..like tape left over after taking down a poster...to scratch bug bites...to paint...Why do humans have fingernails?
to protect nerve endings...





throughout all of our body we have nerves. nerves allow us to feel pain, at the ends of our fingers and toes are our nerve endings. so if you were to touch an actual nerve you would feel tremendous amounts of pain, this is why we have finger and toe nails, to protect our nerve endings.





have you ever cut your nail down too far?


got scratched or cut under your nail?


broken a nail?


lost a whole nail?


ingrown nail?





they all hurt.





without nails, our nerves would be exposed and the slightest things would hurt.Why do humans have fingernails?
Fingernails and toenails corresponds to the claw, hoof, or talon of other animals. Human nails protect the tips of the toes and fingers, while fingernails help us pick up small objects and scratch ourselves.





On the other hand, the feet of primates are capable of gripping objects, just like their hands, so their toenails have much the same function as fingernails. However, human toenails seem to be an evolutionary leftover.
So we can scratch that itch.
So they can scratch their a** when it itches
to protect the tips of our fingers
They act like little shovels when cleaning your ears with your pinkies.
